Context
The need to amplify human cognition, manage attention, and guide intention within the enterprise through AI-generated support.
Decision
Introduce a Cognitive Extension Layer that dynamically generates and recommends cognitive artifacts to users, driven by an AI chatbot recommendation algorithm.
Rationale
This layer directly addresses the Knowledge, Attention, and Intention Economies by providing real-time, context-aware cognitive support. Cognitive artifacts (e.g., structured notes, checklists, diagrams) help users process information, make decisions, and execute tasks more effectively.
Alternatives Considered
Static Knowledge Bases
Rejected - Lack dynamic adaptability to real-time conversational context and user needs.
General-Purpose AI Assistants
Rejected - Lack domain-specific grounding and ability to generate structured, actionable artifacts.
Constraints
- MUST generate cognitive artifacts dynamically based on context
- MUST provide real-time, context-aware recommendations
- MUST ground recommendations in domain-specific knowledge
- MUST NOT overload users with excessive recommendations
Quality Attributes
- Enhanced human-AI collaboration
- Improved decision-making
- Reduced cognitive load
- Increased productivity
- Personalized cognitive support
Bounded Contexts Impacted
- Cognitive Extension Layer
- Knowledge Layer
- Semantic Core
Consequences
Positive
- Enhanced human-AI collaboration
- Improved decision-making
- Reduced cognitive load
- Increased productivity
- Personalized cognitive support
Negative
- Requires sophisticated context analysis and recommendation algorithms
- Potential for cognitive overload if recommendations not well-tuned
- Ethical considerations around AI influence
